Police in Nateete have arrested six suspects in connection with the theft and sale of motor vehicle spare parts, particularly oil and fuel filters.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation after police received reports of thieves selling brand-new filters in different city locations.
The first operation netted Frank Mumbia and Eddy Byesigwa, whose interrogation led investigators to four other suspects: Lawrence Ssebina from Nateete, Frank Kateregga from Bwaise, Muhammed Zziwa from the City Centre, and Nalongo Dorothy Nabankema from Ndeeba.
In total, police recovered 422 Renken oil filters of different sizes, which have since been documented and stored at Nateete Police Stores.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango confirmed the operation, saying it targeted areas known for trading stolen parts.
“We conducted operations in Sauri Yako, City Centre, Ndeeba, and Bwaise. A total of six suspects are now in custody at Nateete Police Station. Investigations are ongoing, and we shall continue cracking down on theft and illegal sale of vehicle parts,” Onyango said.
The operation, Onyango added, demonstrates police efforts to dismantle networks of spare-part thieves and recover stolen goods across the city.
