Six men accused of robbing a customer of Shs620 million at a Centenary Bank branch in Kampala have been charged and remanded to Luzira Prison.
The accused have been identified as Muhamed Kayiira, Tamim Kawaganya, Ivan Ongom, Ismael Kasozi alias Maso, Ivan Gizamba, Sharif Mulindwa, and Khalid Akid alias Bombe.
The suspects appeared before Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko on charges of aggravated robbery contrary to Sections 266 and 267(2) of the Penal Code Act.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly stole a bag containing Shs620 million belonging to Gisma Zulaika Hussein on March 26, 2026, at the Nkrumah Road branch of Centenary Bank in Kampala using pangas.
Court heard that the victim, who operates a foreign exchange bureau, had gone to the bank to deposit the money when the robbery occurred.
As aggravated robbery is a capital offence triable only by the High Court, the magistrate did not allow the accused to enter pleas.
The suspects were remanded to Luzira Prison until June 15, 2026, when they are expected to reappear in court.
