Speaker Anita Among has met Pope Leo XI at the Vatican shortly after he celebrated a Mass dedicated to peace, unity, and love among nations.
“I was honoured to meet His Holiness @Pontifex at the Vatican after he celebrated Mass, during which prayers were offered for peace, unity, and love among nations. Later today, I will also meet the Vatican’s Secretary of State.
It is always fulfilling to visit the Vatican and join Catholic faithful worldwide to pray together and renew our faith,” she posted on her X handle.
Her encounter with the newly elected pontiff has sparked reactions back home, with many Ugandans expressing a mix of admiration and envy over her rare opportunities.
In the past, she met the late Pope Francis on several occasions, and now, just months after Pope Leo XI’s election to the highest seat in the Catholic Church, she has once again been granted an audience at the Vatican.
Later today, the Speaker is expected to hold a meeting with the Vatican’s Secretary of State as part of her engagements in Rom
