The Ministry of Finance has tabled a shs3.5 trillion supplementary budget before parliament that it seeks to be approved.
In the budget tabled on Monday by the state minister for Finance, Henry Musasizi, government is seeking the approval of Shs1.574 trillion spent within the 3% legal limit before Parliamentary approval and Shs1.926 trillion prior to approval of Parliament.
The budget shows that shs100 billion classified expenditure will go to State House.
Previously, there have been concerns over the ever-increasing budget for State House, with figures indicating early this year that shs2.8 billion is spent every day by State House.
The latest supplementary budget also indicates that the Ministry of Health is seeking for Shs2.7 billion in supervision costs for Lubowa specialized Hospital, and another Shs22.934 billion for payment of arrears for medical interns.
In the supplementary budget, the Ministry of Defence is seeking for Parliament’s approval to spend Shs1 billion for the construction of the military museum whereas the Ministry of Public Service wants Shs12.098 billion for the payment of arrears for money lenders association.
The supplementary budget also shows the Ministry of Gender is seeking for a supplementary budget of Shs2 billion to renovate Gaddafi National Mosque.
The mosque at the headquarters of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council has been in the news of late due to the ongoing impasse where it was put up for sale to facilitate the recovery of Shs19 billion loan the Muslim leadership had procured from businessman Justus Kyahabwa.
Court of Appeal recently okayed the sale of the property.
In the supplementary budget, the Ministry of Lands is seeking Shs5 billion to compensate three kingdoms including Shs2 billion for Kabaka’s land, Shs1 billion for Bunyoro and Shs2 billion for Tooro kingdom.
In the budget, the ministry of trade is asking for approval of funds worth shs9.47 billion to inject in Soroti Fruit Factory.
Earlier this year, government started sourcing for a private investor that will take over the operations of Soroti fruit factory, which produces Teso juice after citing mismanagement.
Government through the Uganda Development Corporation is also proposing to give businessman Sudhir Ruparelia Shs37 billion, for the construction of Munyonyo Convention Centre.
The money is a loan government has extended to Sudhir Ruparelia from Uganda Development Bank and will be an addition to the Shs86.4 billion he had earlier received this year for this facility.
The convention centre is to host the Non-Aligned Movement and G77 summits set for January.
