Police in Iganga have arrested three suspects accused of impersonating prominent Ugandan figures, including Natasha Museveni Karugire and businessman Haji Hamis Kigundu, in an alleged coordinated online fraud scheme.
The suspects have been identified as Hassan Mugoya, Ashraf Kyakatuka, and Asuman Isanga, all residents of Nampirika “A” Village, Bukaye Parish, Nakalama Sub-county in Iganga District.
According to police, the trio allegedly operated multiple TikTok accounts created under the false identities of high-profile individuals in an attempt to deceive and defraud members of the public.
Police said the arrests followed a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Kiwatule Police Station and Iganga Central Police Station on May 5, 2026, after authorities received a complaint regarding impersonation targeting Haji Hamis Kigundu.
Upon arrest, investigators reportedly recovered mobile phones believed to have been used to operate several fake TikTok accounts bearing the names of Natasha Museveni and other fabricated identities.
The Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Michael Kasadha, confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing.
“Three suspects have been arrested and detained at Iganga Police Station for allegedly impersonating Mrs. Natasha Museveni Karugire and Haji Hamis Kigundu. Further investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of the fraud and to arrest more suspects connected to this case,” ASP Kasadha said.
Police added that surveillance teams had been monitoring the suspects before the coordinated operation was carried out.
The suspects are expected to be transferred to Kampala for further prosecution as investigations continue.
