The Makindye Magistrates Court has remanded three people over the alleged illegal takeover and sale of part of a deceased person’s estate in Makindye.
The accused are Umar Male, Nsereko Hood Mukasa Ssembatya, and Janat Namboze Nsubuga.
They were arraigned by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Prosecution charged them with intermeddling with the estate of a deceased person, eviction of a lawful or bona fide occupant, destroying growing plants, forcible entry, malicious damage to property, theft, and trespassing on burial grounds.
Court heard that between 2024 and 2025, the accused, together with others still at large, allegedly forcefully entered about four acres of land at Ndejje-Lubugumu in Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District, belonging to the estate of the late Ibrahim Katerega.
It is alleged that they unlawfully evicted lawful occupants without a court order, destroyed plantations, demolished houses with property still inside, and stole several belongings.
Prosecution further states that the accused used armed goons carrying machetes and sticks to intimidate and chase away the rightful occupants from the land.
They are also accused of fencing off the land, including burial grounds, denying the rightful beneficiaries access to the estate of the late Katerega.
Investigations further revealed that the suspects allegedly participated in the sale of three acres of the deceased’s land without obtaining letters of administration.
The trio was remanded until April 29, 2026, as investigations continue.
