Two suspects have been arrested in Nansana, Wakiso District, over the alleged kidnapping of a 10-year-old boy for a Shs20 million ransom.
The suspects have been identified as Benard Matovu, 20, a resident of Nsumbi, Kyebando, and Christopher Ssemata, 30, a boda boda rider from the same area.
The boy was allegedly kidnapped on October 4, 2026, in Senge, Wakiso Sub-County, after Matovu reportedly drove away with a silver Subaru Impreza, registration number UA 229AR, which he had been hired to wash.
According to police, Matovu was called to a residence in Nansana East 2A at about 9am to wash the vehicle. After completing the task, he allegedly drove away with it, switched off his mobile phones and proceeded to Senge, where he allegedly abducted the child from his family’s workshop.
Police said Matovu later transported the child to Nsumbi Village in Kyebando, where a ransom of Shs20 million was demanded for his release.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala said the suspects were arrested following a coordinated police operation after the child’s family reported the incident.
“Following investigations and a coordinated follow-up operation, police successfully recovered the child and the stolen motor vehicle,” Kawala said.
She added that the two suspects were rescued from a mob and taken into police custody, where they are assisting with investigations.
The stolen Subaru Impreza was also recovered during the operation.
Police said investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping, ransom demand and theft of the vehicle.
“Police investigations are ongoing,” she said.
