Police in Kyegegwa District have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a mother, her one-year-old daughter and a domestic worker in Karokalungi LC I, Kyamagaba Parish, Nkanja Sub-county.
The victims were identified as Christine Kansiime, 28, her daughter, Miracle, aged one year and three months, and Joan A, 19, who was employed as a domestic worker at Kansiime’s home.
The bodies were discovered on October 8, 2026, after a neighbour visited the home at about 1 p.m. to check on the occupants.
According to Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Regional Police spokesperson, the neighbour alerted other residents, who subsequently notified the police.
“Officers from Kyaka II Police Station responded to the scene, with reinforcement from Kyegegwa Central Police Station,” Twesige said.
Police officers found the scene well preserved and deployed a sniffer dog, identified as Bruno, to help trace the suspected movements of the perpetrator or perpetrators.
Twesige said the dog picked up a human scent at the scene and followed the trail during the tracking exercise.
“The dog led the officers to a corridor in Bwiliza Ndolobwile Village, where some clothing belonging to one of the deceased was recovered,” he said.
The tracking trail subsequently led investigators to the home of Bageza Tonesiti, where the clothing was recovered.
“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident following the canine tracking exercise,” Twesige said.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths and identify those responsible for the triple murder.
Twesige said police were continuing to gather evidence to support the investigations and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
