Three people, including two senior Kisoro District Local Government officials, have been remanded to September 14, 2026, after appearing before the Anti-Corruption Court over allegations of soliciting and receiving more than Shs200 million from job seekers.
The accused are Amos Hakizimana, the Kisoro District Speaker; Nshaka Erastus, the Chairperson of the Kisoro District Service Commission (DSC); and Alphonse Muhanika, a private individual accused of acting as a middleman in the alleged scheme.
The trio was charged with corruption and conspiracy to commit a felony following investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
According to the prosecution, the accused, together with other suspects who are still at large, allegedly solicited and received more than Shs200 million from job applicants in Kisoro District between 2024 and 2025.
The money was allegedly collected from applicants in exchange for purported assistance in securing employment within Kisoro District Local Government.
Prosecution alleges that the accused used their positions and influence to facilitate the recruitment scheme, targeting people seeking jobs in the district.
The Anti-Corruption Court remanded the three accused until September 14, 2026, when they are expected to return for further proceedings.
Investigations into the alleged job-selling scheme are continuing, with authorities pursuing other suspects believed to have been involved.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has also urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to similar schemes or have information about the alleged payments to report to the relevant authorities.
The case is part of ongoing efforts by anti-corruption agencies to curb the alleged sale of public jobs and abuse of public office.
