United Bank for Africa (UBA) Uganda, in collaboration with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service (UBTS), has conducted its annual blood donation drive across all regions where the bank operates, including Kampala, Mukono, Mbale, Mbarara, Jinja, Gulu, and Fort Portal.
The initiative, held every year, comes at a crucial time when demand for blood typically rises due to increased road accidents during the festive season, maternal health emergencies, and conditions such as sickle cell disease and malaria.
Esther Awor, Blood Donor Recruiter at UBTS, underscored the significance of the partnership. “We are collecting blood for people involved in road accidents during the festive season, expectant mothers, and patients with illnesses that at one time require blood. This drive, powered by United Bank for Africa, consistently attracts large numbers at such a critical time. We appreciate UBA for their annual commitment, which ensures blood is available for those in need,” she said.
UBA Uganda’s Head of Marketing, Mrs. Hoziana Niyonsaba Ssemanda, expressed gratitude to participants and reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to growing the initiative each year. “This is a tradition we uphold annually as part of our efforts to give back to communities across the country. We anticipate collecting more blood than last year due to the strong turnout at all locations,” she stated.
Mrs. Hoziana also acknowledged donors in Mukono, where the 2025 drive began, noting their punctuality and large numbers.
Similar engagement has been observed in other regions across the country. She urged all eligible donors to continue supporting the initiative, emphasizing the life-saving impact of their contributions. “We encourage all able individuals to donate. Your donation can save lives, and every life deserves the chance to live longer,” she added.
UBA Uganda reaffirmed its long-term commitment to supporting national health services and strengthening communities through consistent, impactful initiatives such as this annual blood donation drive.
