Several supporters of KCCA FC have been injured in a road accident while returning from Midigo in Yumbe District, after travelling to support the club in their Uganda Premier League fixture against Calvary FC.
The fans were travelling in a Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBR640K, after making the long journey to West Nile to cheer on KCCA FC. The Kampala-based side suffered a 1-0 defeat to the hosts, with Lawrence Olaboro scoring the only goal of the match.
In an official statement, KCCA FC confirmed that several of their supporters were injured in the accident and are currently receiving medical attention.
“This morning, we received news of a road accident involving our fans traveling back from Midigo, Yumbe. The incident occurred as our supporters were making their way home from West Nile where they had gone to support KCCA FC in a Uganda Premier League game against Calvary FC,” the club stated.
The club expressed solidarity with the injured supporters, acknowledging their dedication in travelling long distances to stand behind the team.
“We recognise their passion that took them across the country to stand by us, and today, we stand firmly by you,” the statement read.
KCCA FC also wished the injured fans a swift recovery and said they are closely monitoring the situation.
“We continue to monitor the situation and we wish you a swift and full recovery. We look forward to seeing you back in the stands, healthy and cheering, very soon,” the club added.
Authorities are yet to issue a detailed report on the cause of the accident.
