Following the latest inspection by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) the continental football governing body has confirmed Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania as fully prepared to host the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.
CAF officials inspected key Ugandan facilities, including Namboole, Kyambogo, FUFA Kadiba, and Wankulukuku, and found them to meet the required international standards, with only minor improvements recommended.
The successful inspection reaffirms East Africa’s commitment to hosting world-class tournaments.
While addressing officials from CAF and Uganda’s sports fraternity, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, expressed her gratitude to CAF for its support. She emphasized Uganda’s readiness, highlighting the country’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and successful tournament.
“With the Organizing Committee in place, we are now working closely with CAF to finalize all preparations. Hosting CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027 is a great step for East African sports, and we are ready to showcase our capability to the continent,” she said.
She further confirmed that Uganda has already secured its $13 million contribution to support the tournament, ensuring that infrastructure and logistical needs are met.
“Our infrastructure is in place, and Uganda has secured its $13M contribution to ensure a successful event,” she added.
The First Lady also reassured CAF and football fans across Africa that Uganda, along with Kenya and Tanzania, is dedicated to delivering a memorable and world-class tournament.

With the final stages of preparation underway, East Africa is set to make history as the first regional hosts of AFCON 2027, marking a significant milestone in African football.
The successful hosting of CHAN 2024 will serve as a strong foundation, demonstrating the region’s ability to organize and host major international tournaments.
Moses Magogo, the FUFA president revealed that Uganda was not fully prepared to host the 2024 CHAN as initially scheduled for February, stating that the postponement to August has given Uganda more time to address the areas the weren’t ready.
