Uganda has officially entered the global Miss Universe franchise following the launch of the inaugural Miss Universe Uganda 2026 competition in Kampala.
The competition was unveiled during a media briefing held at Mestil Hotel & Residences on Thursday, marking the beginning of Uganda’s participation in one of the world’s most recognized beauty, leadership, and advocacy platforms.
The initiative is being spearheaded by National Director Joram Muzira, who described the development as a defining moment for Uganda’s creative and cultural industries.
According to organizers, the platform is designed to empower young women through leadership development, confidence building, advocacy, and international exposure while promoting Uganda’s culture and tourism on the global stage.
Applications for contestants opened immediately after the launch and will remain open until June 4, 2026. Organizers say the nationwide search is targeting intelligent, confident, and purpose-driven women ready to represent Uganda internationally.
The selection process will feature digital campaigns, media engagements, contestant activations, and public awareness initiatives leading up to the national casting event scheduled for June 7 at MOTIV.
Successful applicants will proceed to intensive training programs, including mentorship sessions, runway coaching, public speaking, fitness training, branding, media preparation, and advocacy development.
A residential bootcamp later in the year will expose contestants to leadership workshops, cultural experiences, challenge activities, and elimination rounds ahead of the grand finale scheduled for August 1, 2026.
The competition will also feature a high-profile Sashing Ceremony where contestants will officially receive their regional sashes in a showcase celebrating elegance, diversity, sisterhood, and national pride.
The eventual winner will become Uganda’s first official representative at the 75th edition of Miss Universe and will undergo international-level preparations in media, styling, wellness, advocacy, and public speaking before competing globally in November 2026.
Organizers say the platform is expected to elevate Uganda’s fashion, entertainment, tourism, and creative sectors while positioning the country on the international pageantry map for the first time.
