Former Busiro East parliamentary aspirant Mathias Walukagga has endorsed Emmanuel Magoola Matovu for the Busiro East Member of Parliament seat ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Walukagga made the declaration on Tuesday during a press conference in Bulenga, saying his decision was influenced by what he described as unfair and unconstitutional processes that denied him the opportunity to contest.
“I was nominated and later de-nominated in a manner that was unfair, biased, and unconstitutional. Because of this, I cannot rally behind leaders who do not reflect the priorities of the people of Busiro East,” Walukagga said.
He formally unveiled Magoola as the candidate he will support for the 2026–2031 parliamentary term and urged voters in Busiro East to back him.
“I am lending him my term because I was confident of winning. I will bounce back stronger in 2031, not just with a degree, but with a master’s qualification,” he added.
Walukagga also appealed to his supporters and residents of Busiro East to embrace Magoola, pledging to actively participate in his campaign.
“I will engage my party leadership and inform them of my decision to rally behind Magoola. Our party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, is expected to visit Busiro East soon, and by then he will be fully aware of and supportive of my position,” Walukagga said.
He further committed to taking part in Magoola’s campaign activities across the constituency.
Magoola previously contested for the National Unity Platform (NUP) party flag alongside Walukagga and Medard Sseggona. Although the party ticket was initially awarded to Walukagga, Magoola later opted to contest as an independent candidate, a path also taken by Sseggona.
Walukagga was later disqualified by the Electoral Commission for failing to present the required academic qualifications, effectively ruling him out of the race.
The endorsement is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape in Busiro East as campaigns for the 2026 general elections gather momentum.
