President Museveni has taken a swipe at Buganda clan leaders who flew to Namibia to check on the Kabaka without permission from the kingdom for embarrassing the country.
In a July 11, 2024 letter, Museveni responded to the Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs, who had been informed by the Ugandan High Commissioner to South Africa and Namibia about the actions of the clan leaders who were arrested .
” Therefore, by the copies of this letter, I request all Ugandans to stop embarrassing Uganda by opportunistically trying to show how much they are for the Kabaka,” Museveni said.
The team of five Buganda clan leaders earlier this month left the country to visit the Kabaka in Namibia where he is on recovery and check on his health status.
However, they have since been blocked by authorities in Namibia for not having authorization to visit Kabaka.
In his letter, President Museveni insisted that what happened in Namibia was despicable and causes a strain on the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
“These dramas are happening away from our jurisdiction. Otherwise we would have taken action.”
He noted that apart from the Kabaka himself, the next level of authorization to visit him could be his family or whoever else he has authorized.

The development comes on the backdrop of the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga taking a swipe at these clan leaders whom he said had no business going to Namibia to check on the Kabaka after being informed that he is recuperating well.
He said the Kabaka communicates to his subjects through the Katikkiro to inform them of his health status and in a recent video, he assured Buganda he was recovering well.
Earlier, the clan leaders had assured that no one, including the Katikkiro could stop them from visiting the Kabaka.
