Immigration authorities have arrested 62 Nigerian nationals in Adjumani District for allegedly living and working in Uganda without valid work permits, with a church operation at the center of their activities.
According to Immigration Uganda, the arrests followed a tip-off that led enforcement officers to the group, which was primarily found operating a church alongside other activities deemed illegal.
“Following a tip-off, our enforcement team has arrested 62 Nigerian nationals operating illegally in Adjumani (without work permits). The group, primarily found operating a church among other things, is now being processed for prosecution under Uganda’s immigration laws,” Immigration Uganda said.
The suspects are currently being processed for prosecution in line with Uganda’s immigration laws.
Immigration authorities said the operation is part of a nationwide crackdown on undocumented foreign nationals living and working illegally in Uganda.
Officials added that enforcement exercises will continue across the country to ensure compliance with immigration requirements, including valid permits and proper documentation for all foreign nationals.
