Police on Tuesday afternoon responded to a report of a suspected explosive device discovered at the residence of local musician Mulwana Patrick, popularly known as Alien Skin.
The device, later confirmed to be a Russian-made hand grenade, was found at his construction site in Nakinyogozi, Makindye Division.
According to a police statement issued by Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, officers were alerted around 3:30 p.m. on July 1.
Upon arrival at the scene, Alien Skin presented the device to the responding officers, stating that it had been unearthed by construction workers while digging a foundation on his property.
“Our officers advised him to put it down immediately for safety,” said SSP Onyango.
“The area was then cordoned off and our bomb squad was called in to safely handle the situation,” he added.
A team from the bomb disposal unit later carried out a controlled detonation of the device. No injuries or damage were reported during the operation.
The police identified the object as a Russian hand-thrown grenade. The scene was documented, and investigations into how the grenade came to be at the site are ongoing.
SSP Onyango used the incident to caution the public about the dangers of handling unknown objects.
“Police urge the public to exercise caution when encountering suspicious items, not to touch or move them, and to inform the authorities immediately,” he added.
Alien Skin, known for his controversial public image and outspoken views, has not commented publicly on the incident beyond cooperating with police at the scene.
