A 16-year-old girl is in police custody after allegedly killing her mother in a shocking incident that unfolded in Leju Town Council, Terego District, following a morning drinking session.
The incident happened early on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, in Akua Cell, Awaa Ward. According to police, the teenager identified as Scovia, a resident of Elavu Cell allegedly turned violent during a fight with her mother, Mariku Grace, 49.
Authorities say the mother and daughter started drinking local alcohol together at around 7:00 AM.
By 9:00 AM, they had left the drinking spot. But on their way home, a disagreement turned into a violent confrontation.
Eyewitnesses claim Scovia picked up a stick during the argument. What followed was a shocking act of violence she allegedly attacked her mother and, in an especially gruesome detail, drove the stick into her nostrils, inflicting fatal injuries.
Passersby found Scovia beside her mother’s lifeless body and raised the alarm.
Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), and other detectives arrived quickly to secure the scene and begin investigations.
Scovia was arrested at the scene and later handed over to the Terego District Probation Officer, who escorted her to the police station.
She remains in custody and is said to be cooperating with investigators.
Mariku’s body was transported to Arua City Mortuary for a postmortem to determine the official cause of death.
The case has triggered fresh concerns about the growing issues of domestic violence and underage drinking in the region.

The incident has left residents of Leju Town Council in shock, with many struggling to come to terms with the grim reality of a daughter allegedly taking her mother’s life in such a brutal manner.
