Uganda Premier League champions Vipers Sports Club have confirmed the return of former midfield maestro Taddeo Lwanga, marking a significant boost to the club’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Lwanga, who left the Kitende-based side in 2019, has signed a one-year contract with an option for extension. His return was officially announced by the club on Thursday.
“I’m proud to have signed again for Vipers SC,” Lwanga said in a statement. “I want to compete, push for titles, and contribute both on and off the pitch. This is a full-circle moment for me, and I’m grateful to be back at a place I once called home. I can’t wait to play in front of our amazing fans at St Mary’s Stadium.”
Vipers head coach Jacky Minnaert expressed delight at Lwanga’s return, calling him a valuable addition to the team’s ambitions.
“Everyone at Vipers SC is thrilled to welcome Taddeo back,” said Minnaert. “He brings great quality and experience at the highest level. He will be an excellent addition as we aim to compete on multiple fronts. I’m excited to work with him, and I’m sure our supporters are too.”
Lwanga’s return follows a successful six-year stint outside Uganda, where he featured for clubs including Tanta FC (Egypt), Simba SC (Tanzania), Arta/Solar7 (Djibouti), and APR FC (Rwanda). During this period, he clinched league titles in both Tanzania and Rwanda.
On the international stage, Lwanga has been a vital figure for the Uganda Cranes. He played a key role in the national team’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Egypt, where Uganda reached the Round of 16. He also contributed significantly to Uganda’s qualification for the upcoming 2025 AFCON tournament.
His re-signing signals Vipers SC’s intent to retain domestic dominance and make a mark in continental competitions.
