At just 23 years old, Kenneth Galiwango is reshaping Uganda’s digital media landscape with bold innovation and a clear vision for the future of news.
Born on July 15, 2002, in Kampala, Galiwango is the founder of Santa Media Uganda, a fast-growing digital platform delivering breaking news, politics, celebrity gossip, and lifestyle content to a youthful and engaged audience.
Galiwango’s passion for storytelling was evident from a young age. Fascinated by the power of stories to connect communities, he began sharpening his entrepreneurial instincts early.
In 2019, he founded Santa Barber Shop in Mpererwe, which became his first business venture. By February 2025, he had moved into media with the launch of Santa Media Uganda, a platform that blends social media reach with credible reporting.
Though he lacks formal training in journalism or technology, Galiwango taught himself digital skills, content creation, and social media management.
His hands-on approach, coupled with curiosity and determination, enabled him to build a sleek news website—santamedia.ug—and a fast-growing TikTok presence under @santamedia.ug, which has become his platform’s beating heart.
The name Santa Media reflects his mission: delivering timely, authentic, and trustworthy news as if it were a gift to the audience. “Santa” evokes joy and generosity, while “Media” underscores his commitment to informing Ugandans and beyond.
From the start, Galiwango positioned Santa Media as a youth-driven, digital-first platform. Targeting Ugandans aged 18 to 45, his outlet leverages TikTok for quick, engaging news updates while providing in-depth stories on the website.
The dual approach has helped him carve out a unique space in a crowded media landscape, offering both immediacy and depth.
The journey has not been without challenges. From securing funding to assembling a reliable team and competing with established outlets, the road has been demanding.
Galiwango also faced technical hurdles such as website optimization and building reader trust. Yet through resilience, long hours, and creative problem-solving, Santa Media steadily gained traction.
Feedback from readers has been overwhelmingly positive. Audiences praise the platform for its fast, unbiased updates and engaging video content, particularly its coverage of local entertainment and national news. Some have requested deeper features, a suggestion Galiwango is now implementing on the website.
For Galiwango, social media is central to Santa Media’s strategy. TikTok allows real-time storytelling, while Facebook and X amplify reach. Together with santamedia.ug, they create a seamless ecosystem that serves Uganda’s digital-first generation.
He also stresses the importance of independent media in a polarized environment.
“Independent platforms like Santa Media give voice to diverse perspectives, free from corporate or political agendas,” he says, adding that they empower communities with unbiased news and entertainment.
Looking ahead, Galiwango believes Uganda’s digital media space is evolving, but not fast enough. Internet access and digital literacy remain major barriers.
Nevertheless, he sees Santa Media as part of the solution and envisions the platform becoming a leading East African digital media brand within the next three to five years. With plans to expand multimedia features, grow his team, and partner with global platforms, he remains committed to delivering authentic, impactful content.
For young aspiring entrepreneurs, his advice is simple: “Start small but dream big. Focus on your niche, stay authentic, master digital tools, and keep going even when it gets tough.”
From barbering in Mpererwe to building one of Uganda’s most promising media start-ups, Kenneth Galiwango’s journey is a testament to how passion, resilience, and innovation can redefine an entire industry.
