Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has been duly nominated to contest in the 2026 presidential elections.
The Electoral Commission confirmed his nomination following the successful submission and verification of all required documents.
Speaking shortly after his nomination, Kyagulanyi said now is the time for the protest vote.
“We are going into this election as a way of protesting against the injustice that has been occasioned to us for the last 40 years. We are protesting, and the protest begins now. We are going to use this election to protest legally. We are going to use this election to protest constitutionally, and we are going to use this election to protest non-violently,” Kyagulanyi said.
“Many of our brothers and sisters were tortured. Many of them were arrested still in prison many were killed, and many are missing to the present day. Risk it all, because eternity is giving up, and that is 10 times worse. If we give up now, we shall have no moral authority to complain about what happens next.”
The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Bobi Wine now officially enters the race for Uganda’s highest office, marking his second attempt at the presidency after his debut in the 2021 general elections.
He will take on ruling NRM party’s President Yoweri Museveni.
He now joins President Museveni, Mugisha Muntu, Elton Joseph Mabirizi, Robert Kasibante and Nathan Nandala Mafabi.
Bobi Wine is expected to address a post-nomination rally in Nateete, a Kampala suburb.
