The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is set to acquire the L-39 Skyfox aircraft to enhance pilot training and strengthen its light combat capabilities, following an inspection at the Entebbe Air Base by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
During the visit, a delegation from the aircraft manufacturer, Aero Vodochody, led by Vladan Resner and including David Jahoda and Vladimir Tovarek, presented the CDF with a detailed demonstration of the L-39 Skyfox, a modern turbofan-powered military trainer and light combat aircraft.
The Commander of the Air Force, Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi, and other senior Air Force officers attended the inspection and briefing.
General Kainerugaba emphasized the importance of technological advancement and modernization within the UPDF Air Force, noting that developing a modern air arm remains a strategic priority. Evaluating new-generation aircraft such as the L-39NG is part of the UPDF’s broader plan to improve pilot training, operational readiness, and overall capability.
If procured, the L-39 Skyfox will play a key role in advancing pilot skills while supporting light combat operations, reinforcing the UPDF’s ongoing modernization efforts across equipment acquisition, personnel training, and institutional reforms.
