In a bid to ensure a smooth electoral process and prevent delays in the delivery of polling-day materials, the Electoral Commission (EC) has begun dispatching election supplies to districts across the country.
The EC Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, confirmed that the first batch of materials—including ballot boxes, declaration forms, and other essential items—has already been delivered to 12 districts. The supplies are being escorted by security personnel to guarantee their safety.
The dispatched materials will be used during polling for the Presidential, Directly Elected Member of Parliament, and District Woman Member of Parliament elections.
To curb voter fraud, the Commission will deploy Biometric Voter Verification Kits (BVVKs) at all polling stations. Voters are also being issued Voter Location Slips, which indicate their designated polling stations and are linked to the biometric verification system.
The EC further confirmed that election results will first be announced at individual polling stations before being transmitted to district tally centers.
According to the EC, preparations are on track to ensure a safe, well-organized, and timely election on January 15.
“This exercise marks a critical milestone in electoral preparations and underscores the Commission’s commitment to timely logistics, effective coordination, and the smooth conduct of the electoral process. Dispatches to the remaining districts will follow,” the commission stated.
