Police in Wakiso District have arrested three suspects in connection with a series of thefts targeting places of worship, including a break-in at Kavumba Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Wakiso Town Council, where a music amplifier and mixer were stolen.
The incident occurred on the night of April 11, 2026, when unknown individuals reportedly broke into the church and stole the sound equipment, prompting an immediate investigation by security agencies.
Following swift intelligence-led operations, police later recovered the stolen church equipment from a nearby house.
During the same operation, officers also recovered additional property suspected to have been stolen earlier from a mosque in the area, suggesting a possible pattern of repeated burglaries targeting religious institutions.
The suspects, identified as Ssekitooleko Ronald, Wabwire, and Robert, are currently in custody assisting police with ongoing investigations.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said security agencies are stepping up efforts to curb rising cases of thefts at places of worship and urged religious leaders to enhance security measures.
“Criminals are increasingly targeting both churches and mosques, which calls for heightened vigilance. We urge leaders of places of worship to strengthen their security by deploying guards, improving lighting around their premises, and installing CCTV surveillance systems,” he said.
He added that investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects are part of a wider network involved in targeting churches and mosques in Wakiso District.
