The police have issued safety measures to be adhered to by parents and schools to guarantee learners’ safety as learning institutions reopen for the first term.
According to police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, the opening of the term sees an increase in activities around and near schools.
“The increase in activities means waking up early by parents to transport children to school, especially day scholars which brings about congestion on roads. Parents should not allow children leave home by their own as this is dangerous as wrong persons might take advantage of them,” Enanga said.
“Schools should review their security emergency preparations since some of these fundamentals are mastered by members of the public who might use loopholes.
According to police, as children return for the new week, they should be examined for any signs of abuse and torture during holiday whereas those transported on boda bodas should be given crash helmets.
“Schools should give special consideration to parents with fees concerns since it psychologically affects children if denied entrance to school. It is bad to see learners waiting outside as colleagues are in class. There is need for arrangement for schools to avoid this.”
Enangs said children should be taught to be cautious of strangers by walking away, whereas schools are asked not to tolerate bullying.
