The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in coordination with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has arraigned Nicholas Arinda before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court over charges of forgery, uttering a false document and obtaining money by false pretence.
Arinda appeared in court on Wednesday and was remanded until 9 March 2026 as investigations into the matter continue.
Prosecution told court that Arinda, together with another suspect who is still on the run, fraudulently created a forged appointment letter dated December,4 2024, reference number PO/23, which falsely indicated that Alfred Nagwomu had been appointed Managing Director of the Uganda Railways Corporation (URC).
The forged document was allegedly made to appear as if it had been signed by President Yoweri Museveni, which prosecution said was not true.
The court further heard that Arinda and his accomplice used the fake letter to extort more than shs20 million from Mr. Nagwomu, claiming the money would be used to secure the appointment.
