Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has urged taxpayers to file and pay their monthly taxes by January 12, 2026, ahead of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections slated for January 15.
In a public notice released on Monday, January 5, URA management said the early filing measure is intended to ensure smooth tax compliance and continuity of services during the election period.
“Due to the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections, all eligible taxpayers are encouraged to file their monthly Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Withholding Tax (WHT), Local Excise Duty (LED) and Gaming and Pool Betting Tax (GPBT) returns and make the corresponding payments by 12th January 2026,” URA management stated.
The tax authority warned that failure to comply within the advised timeframe could result in penalties and interest arising from late filing and payment.
URA also reassured taxpayers that its service delivery will not be disrupted, noting that all Service Centers and the Contact Centre will remain operational to provide assistance.
“Timely compliance will help taxpayers avoid penalties and interest associated with late filing and payment of taxes,” URA said.
The advisory takes effect immediately and is aimed at easing pressure on both taxpayers and URA systems during the election period.
For further guidance, taxpayers have been advised to contact URA via services@ura.go.ug, toll-free lines 0800 117000 or 0800 217000, toll lines 0417 444602 / 0417 444603, or WhatsApp 0772 140000.
