Junior Achievement Uganda has appointed Pamela Turyatunga, the Sustainability Manager at Absa Bank Uganda, to its Board of Directors.
The appointment brings to the organisation a leader with strong experience in sustainability, financial literacy and youth empowerment, areas closely aligned with the mission of Junior Achievement Uganda.
In a statement announcing the appointment, the organisation welcomed Turyatunga to its leadership team and expressed confidence in her contribution to advancing its vision.
“Welcome to our Board of Directors. Your commitment to empowering young people aligns deeply with JA Uganda’s vision, and we look forward to working alongside you,” the statement said.
In her role at Absa Bank Uganda, Turyatunga is responsible for ensuring that the bank remains a positive force in society by advancing its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda. Her work focuses on promoting inclusive finance, diversity and inclusion, and climate action while overseeing the implementation of the bank’s sustainability and corporate social responsibility strategy.
Commenting on her appointment, Turyatunga described the opportunity as closely aligned with her personal values and professional mission.
“This board appointment is deeply meaningful to me because it aligns with my personal values and commitment to empowering young people with the skills and opportunities to thrive now and in the future,” she said.
She noted that serving on the board would allow her to contribute her expertise in sustainability and governance while strengthening strategic oversight within the organisation.
Turyatunga also expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with a diverse network of leaders within the global Junior Achievement movement.
“I look forward to contributing and learning from a diverse group of board members across JA Uganda, JA Africa and JA Worldwide,” she said.
Academically, Turyatunga holds a Master of Science in Forestry from Makerere University. She also holds a Business Sustainability Management certificate from University of Cambridge, a Women in Leadership certificate from Strathmore University, and a Carbon Literacy certificate from the Carbon Literacy Trust in the United Kingdom.
Her additional academic credentials include a Diploma in Cross-Cultural Communication and International Work from Hald International Centre in Norway, as well as certifications in Client Relationship Management, Public Speaking and Coaching, and Leadership Training.
Beyond her professional work, Turyatunga is an active advocate for sustainability and youth empowerment on global platforms. She serves on the management committee of the **One Young World Uganda Chapter 2026 and has participated in global initiatives including COP29 stakeholder engagement.
She is also a One Young World Ambassador, supporting international efforts aimed at empowering young leaders.
In addition to her leadership and advocacy work, Turyatunga is an author. Her book, Alyvea, focuses on helping young people make informed life decisions. The publication is distributed in schools, universities and other higher learning institutions, addressing social issues including teenage pregnancy.
