The 2026 Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon has officially opened entries, offering runners an early bird registration opportunity ahead of the fifth edition of the event, scheduled for August 22 in Kasese. The move comes as the marathon continues to attract both local and international participants, cementing its status as one of East Africa’s premier long-distance races.
Under the early bird offer, Ugandans and citizens from other East African Community (EAC) countries—including Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, and Rwanda—can register at Shs50,000, while international participants pay $50. The discounted rates run until July 1, 2026, after which standard fees of Shs60,000 for EAC residents and $60 for international runners will apply. Sandra Againe, Tusker Lite Brand Manager, emphasized the importance of early registration, noting that it gives runners time to adequately prepare for the race. “We encourage participants to take advantage of the early bird window, not only for the cost benefit but also to ensure they are well-prepared for this unique marathon experience,” she said.
The marathon has grown significantly in international recognition, attracting participants from 36 countries last year. Organizers expect the 2026 edition to see even broader global participation. To boost visibility, the event has featured activations at major international races, including the Kilimanjaro Marathon in Tanzania, with upcoming appearances scheduled at the Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town, the London Marathon, and the Comrades Marathon in Durban.
As part of these engagements, organizers collaborate with international running influencers, host expo booths, and lead community runs to build awareness. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is supporting efforts to coordinate activities with Ugandan embassies in host cities.
Now officially listed on the World Athletics Calendar and recognized as a Label Race, the Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon continues to strengthen Uganda’s reputation as a global destination for running and sports tourism.
