Government and the African Development Bank have reviewed the progress of major transport infrastructure projects across Uganda, reaffirming their commitment to accelerating road development and ensuring the timely delivery of ongoing works.
The review followed a meeting on Wednesday between AfDB Uganda Country Manager Themba Bhebhe and Minister of Works and Transport Fred Byamukama.
The two officials assessed the implementation of several AfDB-funded road projects currently under construction, including the Busega–Mpigi Expressway, the Namagumba–Budadiri–Nalugugu Road and the Kabale–Bunyonyi/Kisoro–Mgahinga Roads.
They also reviewed the status of upcoming projects, namely the Katuna–Muko–Kamuganguzi Road, the Laropi–Moyo–Afoji Road and the Kampala–Jinja Expressway Public-Private Partnership (PPP), which are advancing through procurement and the Bank’s approval processes.
During the meeting, Byamukama commended the African Development Bank for its continued partnership in improving Uganda’s transport infrastructure.
The Minister also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening project oversight to ensure timely completion of the projects and the prudent utilization of borrowed funds.
The road projects are expected to improve connectivity, facilitate regional trade, lower transport costs and support economic growth once completed.
