Police have dismissed claims that some of the suspects arrested during the anti-corruption protest were tortured while in custody.
A number of suspects who are currently out on bail have accused police of torturing them while in cells.
These wrote on social media that they were subjected to beatings and kicking, pointing fingers towards the Kampala Metropolitan CID commander, Joel Ntabu.
Commenting about the matter, Kampala Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire dismissed the claims, saying Ntabu’s work entails supervising CID officers to see files go through the right procedure and sanctioned by the DPP.
“He never does interviews or interrogations on suspects but his work is specifically supervising case files. You can come out with your evidence if you have it but we cant rely on tweets to say he did this or that,”Owoyesigyire said.
Police said anyone with proof should present it so investigations into the allegations begin, warning that it will remain an allegation if no one files a formal complaint.
“ We cant rely on a mere tweet. Report formally and we shall investigate. Only one suspect spent a night in our custody of all those who were arrested, but we are willing to look into the allegations if there is any bit of truth in there.”
