Former Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga has unveiled a new political formation named the Democratic Alliance ahead of 2026 elections.
Mpuuga made the announcement on Friday in Kampala.
He said the new political formation will be a civic platform that will later evolve in an electoral platform.
“We are consulting but in a few month, it will be an electoral platform. I want to tell you that the leading opposition political party in Uganda is in deep slumber,”Mpuuga said.
He said all change seeking Ugandans, including youths have got a new home that he said will help him advance his agenda, including electoral reforms.
“This country is a suffering nation. It is a sick country. People are sick, tired and injured. People need healing and it must come from our common unity of purpose to deliver one single mission; saving the country from going under the abyss.”
“We shall work with everyone, even those who are not our friends as long as we going on the same journey. We shall not close any doors to anyone. We shall even knock on the doors of our enemies for the sake of this country,” Mpuuga said.
The development comes after the Nyendo Mukungwe legislator severed ties with the National Unity Platform headed by Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine.
The bad blood between Mpuuga and the NUP leadership started when Kyagulanyi suspended him as the party deputy president for Buganda over the shs500 million ‘service award’ that Mpuuga pocketed.
“You have thus failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for engaging in this action which goes against the vision, mission and objectives of the party,” Kyagulanyi said.
“It also goes against article 5.3(b) and f of the party constitution which obligates party members to conduct themselves in a manner that does not bring disrepute to the name of the party as well as practice accountable leadership.”
Mpuuga would later thank God for “saving me from my frenemies.”
