Police has said it wont allow the planned launch of the “Youth Protest Vote,” organized by the opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), which was scheduled to take place today at the party’s headquarters.
In an official statement issued earlier, the police said they had become aware of the planned event and warned that it would not be allowed to proceed.
According to the statement, the ban is intended to “maintain public order,” and all individuals and groups involved have been formally cautioned against participating in or facilitating the launch or any related activities.
“The proposed launch, along with any associated activities, will not be permitted,” the police announced. “We urge all parties to comply with this directive.”
The Youth Protest Vote initiative, backed by NUP, had been promoted as a symbolic mobilization effort aimed at rallying young voters ahead of the next election cycle.
However, the police’s decision now puts the event and possibly future mobilization efforts on uncertain ground.
NUP has not yet officially responded to the police directive by the time of publication.
