The Kigali Campus of Acorns Group of Schools has held a series of physical fitness activities for its Early Years Programme (EYP) learners as part of the school’s ongoing 30th anniversary wellbeing campaign.
The activities saw the school’s playground turned into an outdoor exercise space where children participated in guided aerobics, stretching, jogging, dancing and other movement-based games led by their teachers.
School administrators said the initiative was aimed at encouraging physical activity among young learners while supporting the development of motor skills, coordination, teamwork and self-confidence.
Miranda Marielle Hoestra, Head of Preschool and Primary at Acorns Kigali Campus, said structured play and regular physical exercise play an important role in children’s overall development.
“The session showed the enthusiasm and determination of every child as they embraced exercise with smiles and excitement. It was a reminder that children learn in many different ways, including through movement, exploration and play,” Hoestra said.

She noted that physical activity contributes to healthy growth while helping children build concentration, resilience and social skills from an early age.
According to Hoestra, active play and age-appropriate exercise lay the foundation for lifelong healthy habits and support children’s physical, emotional and cognitive development.
The physical wellbeing activities form part of Acorns Group of Schools’ 30th anniversary celebrations, during which each campus is highlighting different aspects of learner wellbeing. The Kigali Campus focused on promoting physical health through regular exercise and active play among its youngest learners.

The school says it continues to integrate academic learning with activities that support learners’ social, emotional and physical development.
