Millions of television viewers across Africa are set to gain easier access to digital entertainment following a new partnership between CANAL+ and Samsung Electronics that will see the DStv Stream application pre-installed on Samsung Smart TVs in 18 African countries.
The collaboration marks the first rollout of a pre-installed MultiChoice Group streaming application on Samsung Smart TVs in English and Portuguese-speaking African markets, a move aimed at simplifying access to digital content and strengthening streaming adoption across the continent.
Under the arrangement, which took effect on June 1, 2026, the DStv Stream app is now available directly from the home screen of all new Samsung Smart TVs sold in markets including Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The development forms part of a broader strategic partnership between CANAL+ and Samsung, which has already been implemented across 40 markets in Europe, Asia and French-speaking Africa.
Through the integration, viewers will be able to access a wide range of content available on DStv Stream, including the FIFA World Cup 2026, the English Premier League, rugby competitions, as well as local and international entertainment programming.
CANAL+ Africa Chief Executive Officer and MultiChoice Group CEO David Mignot said the partnership reflects changing consumer viewing habits and the growing demand for digital content on connected devices.
“We are delighted to extend our longstanding partnership with Samsung across new English and Portuguese-speaking African countries. By expanding the availability of our applications on Samsung Smart TVs across key African markets, we are making it easier for subscribers to access MultiChoice Group content,” Mignot said.
Industry observers say the integration is expected to improve content discoverability, enhance user experience and support the continued growth of streaming services across Africa as more households adopt smart television technology.
The partnership also highlights the ongoing digital transformation within Africa’s media and entertainment sector, where broadcasters are increasingly focusing on over-the-top (OTT) and streaming platforms to reach audiences.
