The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the 620 polling stations which had not started the display of the National Voters Register on April 25th, 2025, have now commenced the exercise.
This follows an earlier assurance by EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama during the official launch of the display exercise.
According to the EC Spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, the affected polling stations will be granted the full 21 days required by law to carry out the display exercise.
“These 620 polling stations will also get the opportunity to display the national voters register for 21 days as required statutorily in the law,” Mucunguzi said.
He emphasized the importance of the display period, urging all eligible voters to take time to verify their details in the register.
“We call upon Ugandans, we call upon the public to take this matter of the display of the national voters register as a very important exercise,” Mucunguzi said, adding that it is the basis for ensuring credible elections.
He explained that the exercise offers citizens a chance to confirm their names and photographs, and also report any errors or illegal entries.
“Voters should go to those polling stations and check that their names are on the register, check that the particulars and photographs match with their identities. Report those that have dirt, those they consider to be underage, and those who appear more than once on the register,” he added.
Mucunguzi reassured the public that Electoral Commission staff are present at all 38,315 polling stations across the country every day from 8am to 6pm, including weekends and public holidays.
He also reminded the public that complaints arising from the display exercise will be handled through the parish tribunals as mandated by law.
“Only those that must be on the voter register should be there. Those that should not be on the voters register must be removed through the legal process… so that together, we can have a clean, credible voters register,” he emphasized.
Mucunguzi reiterated the Commission’s commitment to conducting transparent elections, saying, “A credible voters register is the foundation of a clean, credible election.”
The EC continues to call on citizens to participate actively in the display exercise to ensure accuracy and transparency in the upcoming electoral process.
