Police in Kampala have arrested eight suspects in connection with the violent robbery of shs242 million from Give and Take Hardware in Rubaga Division.
The incident occurred on August 22, 2025, in Kakeeka Zone, where a group of thugs armed with pangas and riding five motorcycles violently intercepted Ausi Kisitu an accountant for Give and Take Hardware, as he was transporting the money to the bank.
Fortunately, neither Ausi nor his rider was injured.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led investigations.
“We reassure the public that such violent crimes will be pursued to their full conclusion, and we commend our officers for the dedicated work that has already yielded results,” he said.
The eight suspects charged are Steven Bakunda alias Kevin, Robert Atwine Kiiza alias Mzee Lubuto, Brian Andebuni alias Junior Black, Raymond Musuza alias Caesar, Andrew Ssali alias Ande Swag, Stankey Kanyerezi, Andrew Nsubuga, and Aboth Shivan Alecho, who is charged as an accessory after the fact.
During the operation, police recovered shs105 million, a motorcycle believed to have been purchased with the stolen funds, and a black laptop bag containing vouchers and receipts from Give and Take Hardware. These items were positively identified by the victim.
The suspects now face charges of aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony, and being accessories after the fact to a felony. ASP Owoyesigyire noted that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other accomplices still at large.
The accused are scheduled to appear before Mwanga II Chief Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, September 11, 2025.
