Court has remanded former Kamuli District Engineer Daniel Mufumba over allegations of embezzling more than Shs600 million meant for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the Nawanyago–Kisozi Road.
Mufumba was on Wednesday arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
He was charged with abuse of office and causing financial loss.
According to the prosecution, Mufumba, who had been on the run before his arrest, joins his co-accused, former Kamuli District Chief Administrative Officer Nasser Mukiibi and former Chief Finance Officer Alex Kifuuse, who were earlier charged in the same case.
Investigators allege that between May and June 2025, the three officials abused their offices by irregularly processing and approving payments exceeding Shs600 million from the Road Rehabilitation and Maintenance Fund.
The prosecution alleges that the money was paid to various suppliers, including Raven Knights Ltd and Total Uganda Limited, purportedly for fuel, construction materials, diversion and traffic control signs, allowances and other items required for rehabilitation works on the Nawanyago–Kisozi Road.
Investigations further allege that Mufumba fraudulently paid himself part of the funds by listing himself among the suppliers who received payments.
The court remanded Mufumba until July 10, 2026, when he is expected to reappear as proceedings continue.
The case forms part of ongoing anti-corruption efforts targeting the alleged misuse of public funds earmarked for infrastructure development.
