Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has pledged to provide free food for lactating mothers for six months to improve their health and boost the immunity of their newborns if elected president.
Speaking during his campaign rallies in Bugweri and Namutumba districts on Sunday, Mafabi said his government will prioritize maternal care by ensuring that mama kits, medicines, and essential supplies are available in all health centers.
Mafabi condemned the current situation where expectant mothers, particularly in rural areas, are forced to buy their own medical supplies despite high levels of poverty.
“In my government, no mother will die because she failed to buy a mama kit. Such things will be history,” he told the cheering crowd in Namutumba town.
The FDC candidate also promised to invest heavily in Busoga’s natural resources, including lake-based economic activities, to create jobs and accelerate development in the region.
He said his leadership would ensure that local communities benefit from minerals and other resources instead of being sidelined.
Campaigning in Nondwe, Makutu, Busesa, and Idudi, Mafabi vowed to fight for fair compensation for Bugweri residents and end what he called “divide-and-rule politics” that have left many Ugandans in poverty.
FDC Party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi urged residents to use the upcoming elections to vote for change and secure better services.
