Five officials from Kisoro District Local Government have been arrested over allegations of soliciting and receiving money from job seekers in exchange for promising them district jobs.
The arrests were carried out on Friday by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), with investigators alleging that the suspects collected about Shs200 million from applicants between October and December 2025.
Those arrested are Kisoro District Speaker Amos Hakizimana, District Service Commission Chairperson Nshaka Erastus, DSC member Richard Turamuhawe, District Councillor John Mfitumukiza, and Alphonse Muhanika, who is accused of acting as a middleman in the scheme.
The Anti-Corruption Unit said two other suspects remain on the run: Francesca Mugisha, the Secretary to the District Service Commission, and Alex Matata, a teacher who is also alleged to have acted as a broker.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspects allegedly demanded and received payments from multiple job applicants while claiming they would help them secure employment in Kisoro District Local Government.
Investigators say inquiries are in advanced stages, and once completed, the suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on corruption-related charges.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has urged members of the public who were allegedly asked to pay money for jobs in Kisoro District to come forward and provide information that could support the ongoing investigations.
