Property worth millions was destroyed after a fire gutted the Kiboko Enterprises Limited Annex Warehouse in Kasambu Zone, Kisugu Parish, Makindye Division.
The fire broke out at around 8:00 PM on Tuesday evening.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident was first reported by two security guards who noticed smoke coming from the roof before alerting the authorities.
“We received information from two security guards who were guarding the warehouses. They detected smoke coming from the roof and later informed the police. We responded to the incident and managed to fight off the fire,” said ASP Owoyesigyire.
He confirmed that the two warehouses, which also housed some offices, were completely destroyed by the blaze.
“What we have so far established is that these premises belong to Kiboko Enterprises Limited, which deals in a variety of commodities. At this point, we don’t know exactly what was lost, but both warehouses were burnt from the lower sections to the upper parts,” Owoyesigyire noted.
Police say investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.
“We want to ascertain what exactly happened, what caused this fire, and how much has been lost. We will provide more information as soon as it’s available,” ASP Owoyesigyire added.
