Police in Mukono District are investigating a mob attack that left five people dead in the early hours of Friday morning.
The incident happened at around 3:00 a.m. in Namanoga village, Seeta Namuganga Sub County, where a group of youths from Kampala had reportedly traveled to attend a music show at Lions Bar.
According to reports, the group allegedly engaged in criminal activities, including using fake currency notes and pickpocketing, sparking anger among local residents. The situation quickly escalated into violence.
“The irate mob attacked the youths, killing five of them and setting ablaze the taxi they had used, registration number UBD 326X,” said SSP Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
Onyango confirmed that the burnt-out vehicle has been secured and the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kayunga Hospital for post-mortem examinations. He added that statements from survivors and witnesses have already been recorded.
“The scene has been secured and investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” Onyango noted, warning the public against mob justice.
Police have urged residents to hand over suspected criminals to security agencies instead of taking the law into their own hands.
