The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, has redeployed Superintendent of Police Arinaitwe Bwana to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) headquarters in Karamoja as part of the latest police reshuffle.
Arinaitwe, who had been attached to the Crime Intelligence Directorate, will now serve in a unit mandated to combat cattle rustling, recover stolen livestock, and enhance security in the Karamoja sub-region and neighbouring districts.
His transfer comes amid renewed attention to his past, including his role during the walk-to-work protests over a decade ago, where he was widely criticised for his handling of opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye. More recently, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) withdrew aggravated trafficking charges that had been brought against him.
The reshuffle has also seen several senior officers reassigned across key directorates.
Senior Commissioner of Police Geoffrey Chombe has been posted to the IGP’s office, while Commissioner of Police Alison Agaba has been deployed to Interpol. Commissioner of Police John William Okalany has been assigned to the Human Rights and Legal Services Directorate as Commissioner in charge of Legal Advisory.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Moses Taremwa, previously the Kampala Metropolitan CID Commander, has been appointed Acting Commissioner in charge of the Trafficking in Persons Department at the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID). Assistant Commissioner of Police Charles Mutungi has been posted to the Uganda Anti-Money Laundering Task Force.
Former Kampala Central Police Station operations commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ivan Nduhura, has been deployed to West Nile as Police Legal Officer. Commissioner of Police Enock Baine, previously attached to the Joint Operations Centre in Naguru, is now Commissioner in charge of the Police Duty Free Scheme and Supermarkets.
Superintendent of Police Patrick Opio, formerly Jinja Road Police Commander, has been transferred to Ibanda as District Police Commander. Assistant Superintendent of Police Shubah Hassan Nyombi, previously Officer in Charge of Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja, has been appointed Officer in Charge of Ntaawo Police Station in Mukono.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Paul Kangave, former Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, has been transferred from Kwania Central Police Station to Namayingo, where he will serve as Officer in Charge.
Among officers recently completing the Intermediate Command Staff Course at Bwebajja, Superintendent of Police Justine Opus has been appointed Deputy Traffic Commander for the Kampala Metropolitan Police Area, while Superintendent of Police Moses Mutabingwa has been deployed as Regional Traffic Officer for Rwenzori East.
The latest reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts to realign the police force and strengthen service delivery across various regions and specialised units.
