DigiTalk Media journalist Arnold Anthony Mukose has been remanded to prison after being charged with broadcasting fake news and sending false distress signals regarding the alleged death of Janet Kataaha Museveni.
Mukose, 41, a resident of Upper Konge Zone in Makindye Division, appeared before the Law Development Centre (LDC) Court on Wednesday, where he denied all charges.
According to the prosecution, between January 26 and March 29, 2026, Mukose, along with others still at large, allegedly used an online platform known as Alternative Digitalk Channel to publish false claims that the First Lady had died.
The state argues that Mukose knowingly disseminated the false information, an offense under Regulation 110(e) of the Uganda Communications Commission (Licensing) Regulations, 2019.
He also faces a second charge under Section 82 of the Uganda Communications Act, Cap 103, for allegedly transmitting false distress signals likely to cause public alarm and confusion.
Mukose maintains his innocence. The magistrate ordered his remand until April 14, 2026, as investigations continue. Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the case.
Mukose was arrested on Sunday afternoon by plain-clothed security operatives at the gate of Metro FM along Martin Road shortly after appearing as a panelist on a political show. Police confirmed his detention on Tuesday ahead of his court appearance.
