KCCA has announced the return of the much-loved Kampala City festival.
The announcement was made in a statement by KCCA Executive Director, Sharifah Buzaki, ahead of the grand launch scheduled for August,6 2025 at City Hall, where the actual festival date will also be revealed.
“We are bringing back the city celebration not just as an event, but as a platform to honor our culture, innovation, creativity, and most importantly, the community spirit that defines Kampala.”
The Kampala City Festival, previously one of the largest urban street festivals in East Africa, had been on a temporary hiatus.
Its return has sparked excitement across the capital, with many eager to relive the vibrant street parades, art exhibitions, musical performances, and food fairs that made the event iconic.
But beyond the entertainment, the Executive Director emphasized the deeper purpose of the festival: “It’s not just about fun. It’s about coming together as a city, recognizing how far we’ve come, and renewing our collective commitment to building a cleaner and more liveable Kampala.”
Sources within KCCA hint that this year’s edition will feature enhanced environmental awareness campaigns, youth innovation showcases, and stronger inclusion of grassroots communities in planning and participation.
With anticipation already building, city residents and businesses are now counting down to the 6th of August, when full details of the festival will be unveiled.
