A high-level Government delegation led by Vice President Maj. (Rtd.) Jessica Alupo and Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has inspected the Kingfisher Development Area in Kikuube District as Uganda intensifies preparations to achieve first oil.
The delegation, comprising Cabinet Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and senior government officials, toured key facilities including the Escarpment Viewpoint, Well Pad 2 and the Central Processing Facility (CPF), where they received an update on the project’s progress, construction milestones and readiness for production.
President of CNOOC Uganda Limited, Liu Xiangdong, said the Kingfisher Project had entered the final stage of development, with major infrastructure nearing completion and operational preparations advancing steadily.
The Central Processing Facility is 99 percent complete, while commissioning preparations stand at 74 percent. Out of the 31 planned wells, 22 are ready for production as the project moves towards safe and efficient start-up.
Liu commended the Government of Uganda, joint venture partners, contractors, host communities and other stakeholders for their support throughout the project’s development. He noted that the Kingfisher, Tilenga and East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) projects have attracted more than USD 12 billion in investments, positioning them among the largest industrial investments in Uganda’s history.
Vice President Alupo applauded CNOOC Uganda Limited and its partners for the progress made, describing the milestone as a result of sustained commitment and collaboration among stakeholders.
She reaffirmed Government’s commitment to maintaining a stable investment environment and providing the infrastructure required to support the responsible development of Uganda’s petroleum resources.
Alupo said the oil and gas sector remains central to Uganda’s industrialisation agenda, energy security and socio-economic transformation, adding that Government is focused on ensuring the country achieves First Oil while maximising benefits for citizens.
The delegation also reviewed CNOOC Uganda Limited’s national content and community development initiatives, which have supported local participation and investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, skills development and access to clean water in host communities.
