Shock has gripped residents of Kyogha Central I Village in Bwera Sub-county, Kasese District, after unknown armed thugs fatally shot the Local Council II Chairperson, Gerald Bwambale, during an early morning robbery.
According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police, the gruesome incident occurred at around 4:03 AM on Tuesday, June 3, when unidentified assailants stormed the home of the 54-year-old leader.
Bwambale, who was asleep at the time, was shot through the door of his residence. The bullet penetrated his stomach, leaving him critically injured.
SP Nelson Tumushime, the Kasese Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and provided initial details surrounding the case.
“Unknown thugs armed with a deadly weapon (gun) attacked Mr. Gerald Bwambale while he was sleeping in his house. They shot through the door, hitting him in the stomach. The assailants went ahead to rob a flat-screen television and a small phone,” SP Tumushime said.
Police responded promptly and rushed the victim to Kagando Hospital Bwera, where medical personnel attempted a minor surgical intervention.
Unfortunately, Bwambale was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
The motive behind the attack is yet to be fully established, though the robbery appears to have been targeted.
Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the aggravated robbery and murder, with efforts underway to track down the culprits.
“Investigations are ongoing, and we call upon members of the public with any useful information to cooperate with the police to ensure justice is served,” SP Tumushime added.
