Fox Bet Limited, trading as MelBet, has officially exited the Ugandan gaming market after its operating license was withdrawn by the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB).
In a public notice issued under Section 4(j) of the Lotteries and Gaming Act, Cap. 334, the NLGRB confirmed that Mel Bet ceased operations in Uganda and is no longer licensed, effective 1st January 2026.
“The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board informs the public that Fox Bet Limited, trading as Mel Bet, has ceased operations in Uganda and is no longer licensed by the Board,” the regulator stated, confirming the operator’s exit.
The board advised players who had accounts with MelBet to withdraw any remaining funds immediately and close their betting accounts, warning of potential financial risks.
“The public is reminded that engaging with unlicensed gaming operators poses significant risks, including loss of funds and lack of recourse in the event of disputes,” the NLGRB cautioned.
The regulator reiterated its mandate to protect players and ensure compliance within the gaming sector, urging the public to engage only with licensed and regulated gaming operators in Uganda.
Mel Bet’s exit adds to a growing list of gaming firms that have either suspended operations or lost licenses as the regulator tightens oversight of the betting industry.
