Police in Nakasongola District is holding a man accused of beheading his workmate and attempting to sell his severed head for suspected ritual purposes in Kampala.
The suspect Identified by police as John Isoke, a farmworker at Kyandigita Bujjumbura village, Nabiswera sub-county, Migyera Town Council, allegedly beheaded his fellow worker identified as Herbert Ameir 26, on Monday around midnight and attempted to sell the head.
According to Police, Isoke was intercepted by residents as he attempted to flee with the human head of his friend wrapped in a brown polythene bag.
The Savannah Region Police Spokesperson SP Sam Twiineamazima said that the gruesome discovery was made on Tuesday morning after the farm manager where Isoke previously worked, Ms Ketty Namuga, found one of her workers, Herbert Ameir, murdered with his head missing.
Namuga, who was in the company of a new employee, noticed Isoke suspiciously exiting the premises, prompting a loud alarm which summoned residents to pursue the suspect.
Upon confrontation by residents, Isoke dropped the bag containing the head and tried to escape but was apprehended and handed over to Migyera Police Station.
“When questioned, the suspect admitted to killing his friend Herbert Ameir and disclosed he was transporting the head to Kisenyi, Kampala City, for sale, allegedly for ritual purposes,” SP Twiineamazima confirmed.
Isoke is believed to have used a panga to commit the murder inside a small farm house before dragging the body outside, where police recovered a blood-stained panga lying beside the decapitated body.
SP Twiineamazima affirmed that investigations are ongoing at Nakasongola Police Station as authorities probe the motive behind the murder and whether there are other individuals involved in the suspected ritual trade.
