Police in Mityana have arrested a woman on allegations of killing her six year old step daughter.
Irene Nabbosa Nakiyingi was killed on December 31 as she went to take mangoes to her primary school teacher who stays near their home at Zigoti cell ZEast igoti town council in Mityana district .
Initially police suspected that the six year old had been defiled and then killed.
However, according to Wamala region police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, investigations have unearthed new detailing linking Teddy Tibeita, 25, the deceased’s step mother to the murder.
“During our investigations, our task team analysed a nearby CCTV camera in the neighborhood and the suspect , a step mother to the victim was seen moving with the victim towards the crime scene and this led us to the arrest of the suspect,” Kawala said.
She noted that upon thorough interrogation, the step mother to the victim admitted to have participated in the murder .
Police said that postmortem results also ruled out defilement but indicated that the six year old girl was strangled.
“Further findings indicate that the suspect killed the deceased out of envy and because she had lost her one month old son in December 2024 and that she suspected her husband Katete Paul to have had a hand in her son’s death,” Kawala said.
She said investigations into the matter will continue before the suspect is arraigned in courts of law over murder.
